Chapter 22

I look down and see Elisar has her arms around me, squeezing. She is squeezing hard. Is she trying to pop me? I don’t like being popped. It sounds like it will be painful. This hug is going on for a long time. Should I say something? I think I should say something.

"Uh... it’s good to see you too, Elisar," I say as I awkwardly pat her back.

"Thank you," she says through tears. "Thank you so much. Because of you, my baby is still alive."

She squeezes a little harder as she finishes the last sentence. So much squeezing.

"You’re welcome. Now, I’m not sure if squeezing someone till they explode is a compliment on your world, but humans don’t really like exploding. It hurts us. We find pain bad."

She releases me and scratches the back of her head in embarrassment. "I’m sorry. It’s just that... well... I’m just happy to have my little boy back. I already got to thank Pangaea and Danny, but you were taking too long to return."

"That’s not all she has to say though," Pangaea walks into the room.

"What do you mean?"

"Well," Elisar says. "Derask took a total of six humans off of your world, not just four."

"What?"

"Well, he kidnapped Pangaea and Danny. He was able to convince Landon and Bubba to willingly join him. However, he also kidnapped two other humans. I was a little too preoccupied to remember this before, and I’m sorry about that."

"Wait, there are more humans out there?" I question with a little disbelief.

"Yeah, man," Danny chimes in. "Isn’t that fantastic?"

He leaves and the door shuts behind him, although his cries of joy can still be heard on this side of the metal door.

I wonder why he is so happy. I know it is great news, and I know that Danny is very exuberant, but that still seems a little much, for even him. I will think about it later.

"So where are the humans kept?" I question her.

"That I do not know, but I do know that they are being kept alive."

"Are they safe?" I ask.

"Yet again, I don’t know. All I know is that they are alive. He needed them for... his slavery business. He wanted to grab two pairs for the prison. His plans changed when Danny became too much of a handful. So, he sold them to whoever would take them to earn a few credits."

"We will find them," I say as I turn my attention towards the child that is laying on the bed. "You work really fast, Halissy."

"The wounds just needed cleaning to prevent any further damage. All his wounds were cauterized. Whoever did this didn’t want him to die, just to suffer."

I still feel no guilt for Bubba. I wonder if I should be concerned by that. Oh well, no time to think about that now. Maybe it will come up later. Halissy breaks me from my chain of thoughts. "I am currently working on cloned limbs for him. They should be ready soon."

Zinka enters and the door closes behind her.
